Far West Freestyle Clubs

Joining a US Ski & Snowboard competition team such as Northstar or Olympic Valley Freestyle and Freeride (SquawFree) gives athletes access to top coaching and strong logistical support. Far West Freestyle clubs are staffed with experienced coaches who help skiers progress from their first mogul course runs to national-level success. To compete, athletes must purchase a US Ski & Snowboard membership and indicating which club and division to assign the membership.  Parents usual create a free account for themselves and each child, then linking them for easy management of memberships and event registration. The season includes four to five scored competitions from January through April, with weekend events featuring two single-mogul runs on Saturdays and a Sunday schedule of one single-mogul run followed by dual moguls. Daily entry fees are about $55 to $70 per event, paid online, and athletes must also have a competition bib for $50 which can be re-used across seasons. Safety gear is important—helmets are mandatory, and mouth guards and back protectors are strongly recommended. As athletes improve and their rankings rise, they may qualify for Junior Nationals, Nor-Ams, US Championships, the US Freestyle Team and the US or other Olympic Teams.

Olympic Valley Freestyle

OVFree, the Olympic Valley Freestyle and Freeride Team, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that promotes all forms of freestyle skiing for all ages and skill levels. The program focuses on fun, safe, high-quality training that helps athletes grow on and off the mountain, supported by 30+ years of coaching experience and Squaw Valley’s deep history. OVFree emphasizes personal development, teamwork, and character, teaching lessons that last far beyond competition. As Olympians Jonny Moseley and Shannon Bahrke note, the program builds strong fundamentals, confidence, community, and a lifelong love for skiing.

Northstar Freestyle

This program is a part of the Northstar Teams which has options for many different disciplines.  Athletes interested in advancing their skills in moguls and aerials may choose to join the freestyle team. Training includes skiing moguls, slopestyle, halfpipe, powder, trees, jumps, gates, steeps, and more. Athletes will train on a private mogul course in our Northstar Training Arena approximately 50%-60% of the time. The team introduces competitive skiing concepts, and allow athletes to develop their own personal vision for the sport.  Recent participants in the program have advanced to European national teams.
